How do you clean Suede shoes?

Generally, I think water ruins suede and you should use a suede brush to clean them. You should be able to get a suede brush from a shoe repair shop. It should have br bristles. If you have tons of mud caked on them, you might have no choice but to rinse the mud off of them, but I don't think I would use the washing machine for that- maybe rinse them in a sink then brush with the suede brush.
