My husband thinks I shouldn't have told them this at work?

Ok money has been really tight this week, I mean REALLY tight. We don't even have food in the house until I get paid on Friday. So anyway, I have less than a quarter tank of gas in my car and no money for gas, so I had to take two vacation days the next two days. I told them at work (them meaning my supervisors) that I was taking two days vacation because I didn't have the gas to get back and forth until Friday. My husband says I shouldn't have shared our financial woes with people at work, and the next time promotions come around I may not get one because they'll think "this woman can't even manage her own home, let alone anything here at work". I'm starting to think maybe he was right, but I couldn't lie to them and say I was going out of town or anything, what if someone saw me around town? What do you think, was that ok that I shared with them the truth of why I had to take the next two days off?
