What is a good wall color for a room with wood trim?

I am so used to white trim, but we have moved into an older home with dark brown trim (mahogany, maybe?) and it also has a red brick fireplace in the middle of the room. I like bright, airy, and cheery rooms but this one seems to dark. What would be a good wall color to cheer the place up yet not look out of place with the dark trim?
