Would I be able to get a transfer on a YRT bus if I show them my single use ticket?

I am riding the Viva Blue to finch station and switching to route 90. I use high school student tickets from a pack of 10 I bought. If I show the YRT bus driver my ticket, would he still give me a transfer if I asked for one? Because I read that transfers are given when cash fare is paid. I want to get a transfer on the YRT bus because I want to extend the 2 hour timelimit.
